The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Resolutions and Recommendations are the body of IUCN’s general policy. At the 2021 IUCN World Conservation Congress, Resolution 18 was adopted on Valuing and Protecting Inland Fisheries. Resolution 18 is recognizing that inland fisheries are a critical ecosystem in maintain food security for nearly a billion people and a value of over 30 billion dollars. The resolution additionally confirmed the need for the integration of management of river basins in an effort to improve access to affordable food through fisheries.
