Chris VandergootReposted from Michigan State University (MSU)

With a great deal of sadness, we share the unexpected passing of Dr. Chris Vandergoot while in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the Ocean Tracking Network Conference. He has been a part of the MSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife family for over a decade, first receiving his PhD in 2014 and then joining our faculty in 2019. He was a scientist, mentor, teacher, colleague, and friend to many in FW. Our heart goes out to his family, his wife Ellyn, and their three children and to the broader Quantitative Fisheries Center family who have lost a close colleague and friend.

We are so deeply saddened by this loss.  The loss of Chris is going to affect people in many different ways and we need to be act with grace and compassion with ourselves and our colleagues.  Some have reached out and asked about how they could help, and friends of the family have recently set up a GoFundMe page.

At this time, a memorial is pending.  Notes of condolences can be passed on to MSU Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Chair, Dana Infante (infanted-at-msu.edu), and she will share them with his family.
