SUMMARY:IUCN World Conservation Congress
DESCRIPTION:The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the French government have agreed to hold the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2020 from 3 to 11 September 2021 in Marseille. The event\, originally scheduled for June 2020\, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThe world is increasingly recognising the inextricable link between biodiversity conservation and human and economic wellbeing\, a connection made all the more visible by the COVID-19 pandemic. The IUCN Congress will be a key milestone for nature conservation and the development of a new global framework for biodiversity. The French government and IUCN remain steadfast in their commitment to these goals. \nRelated to Infish the congress includes a freshwater theme\, A cascade of benefits from healthy freshwaters session\, and motion on valuing and protecting inland fisheries

SUMMARY:International Conference on Global Food Security
DESCRIPTION:The 4th International Conference on Global Food Security addresses the topic of food security at all spatial levels from local to global\, and from an interdisciplinary and systemic food systems perspective. It aims to better understand environmental\, nutritional\, agricultural\, demographic\, socio-economic\, political\, technological and institutional drivers\, costs and outcomes of current and future food security. Interactions with contextual factors including climate change\, urbanisation\, greening the economy and data-driven technologies will be central. The conference addresses the triple burden of malnutrition: hunger\, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity. It explores the state-of-the-art of interdisciplinary insight\, addresses the trade-offs that occur – and synergies that can be sought –in transforming food systems. These are aimed at reconciling the competing environmental\, economic or social objectives and outcomes towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at different levels across spatial and temporal scales.

SUMMARY:6th Biennial Symposium of the International Society of River Science
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming symposium will emphasise research related to the use and protection of water resources considering complex and large river systems. Topics\, such as the structure (biological\, chemical\, and physical) and functioning of lotic ecosystems\, will be addressed through disciplines contributing to the integrative field of river science. Amongst others\, these comprise aquatic and floodplain ecology\, monitoring of freshwater biodiversity\, food web interactions\, restoration of freshwater ecosystems\, hydrologic connectivity\, balancing human and ecological objectives\, urban ecosystems\, ecotoxicology\, ecosystem management and ecosystem services. \nThe symposium serves as a wide platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences between science and practice. As organisers\, we are eager to provide a memorable experience of your attendance at ISRS 2019. Stay up to date via our website! \nEarly Registration: http://isrs2019.info/cms/index.php/conference-registration.html \nTime frame: \n\nOctober 30th 2018: Submission of session proposals\nJanuary 2019: Call for abstracts and registration opening\nApril 2019: Deadline for abstract submission\nMay 2019: Acceptance notification

SUMMARY:InFish in-person meeting
DESCRIPTION:Agenda and more details coming soon! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCraig Paukert (USGS) and Ralph Tingley (U. of Missouri) are doing some amazing behind the scenes work to coordinate our 2019 in-person meeting this April 16-18th in Columbia\, Missouri.  For travel purposes\, please plan on full days worth of meetings on the 16th and 17th with a half day on the 18th.  As a reminder: as a voluntary network\, all attendance at in-person meetings are self-funded.  BUT\, the meeting venue does have good internet and remote participation (though less desirable) will surely be possible.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting agenda is still in development but we will have a preliminary draft to share with the group by our February call.  Topics for the meeting will include a scoping session for the next iteration of the 2015 Global Inland Fisheries Conference (coordinated regional meetings? remote sessions? funding sources?)\, another plenary session on visioning for the InFish network\, and likely two breakout groups.  Proposed topics for the breakouts include: recreational fisheries\, supporting the WWF living planet report needs\, and indicators of conservation effectiveness.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLodging\n\n\nThe conference will be held at the Stoney Creek Hotel and Conference Center. We have a small block (15 rooms) of kings and doubles reserved at a\nreduced rate of $105/night. The block will be available until March 16th. The discounted rate will not be guaranteed after this date.  You can book online using the group code: 209873  or call directly at 1-800-659-2220.  If you call\, please reference the “InFish Annual Meeting” block starting on April 15th.\n\n\nAir travel\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nColumbia Airport\n\nLess flights but several arriving the evening of the 15th and leaving afternoon of the 18th.\nThe conference center is about 20 minutes away and Uber would cost about $25. Several car rental companies are also available at the airport.\n\n\nSt Louis Airport\n\nAbout 1.5 hours from conference center\nMOX Shuttles run about every hour and a half and must be booked ahead of time. If you book at least 24 hours out\, you can have them drop you off directly at the conference center. Costs are between $50-60 one way.\n\n\nKansas City Airport\n\nAbout 2 hours from the conference center\nMOX Shuttles run about every three hours and must be booked ahead of time. If you book at least 24 hours out\, you can have them drop you off directly at the conference center.
